Activity Center – “The ESCAPADE Mission to Mars”
March 13 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

This is a free webinar for anyone to attend. This is a NASA sponsored event to learn from astronauts and their findings.
Please see below for additional details about our next senior outreach event, scheduled for Thursday, March 13 at 7:00 p.m. ET / 4:00 p.m. PT. Note that we will have two guest speakers for this program.
- Talk Title: “The ESCAPADE Mission to Mars”
- Talk Description: The Escape and Plasma Acceleration and Dynamics Explorers (ESCAPADE) mission will demonstrate low-cost planetary space exploration. In this talk, you’ll discover how the twin spacecraft will study Mars’ unique magnetosphere and how the solar wind contributed to the loss of the Red Planet’s atmosphere.
- Speakers: Dr. Michele Cash (NASA HQ) and Alan Zide (NASA HQ)
- Speaker Bios:
- Dr. Michele Cash is the Program Scientist for the Heliophysics Escape and Plasma Acceleration and Dynamics Explorers (ESCAPADE) mission and the Deputy Program Scientist for the Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe (IMAP) mission. Dr. Cash is a physicist whose research focuses on planetary habitability, geomagnetic storms in space, and space weather impacts. Previously, she spent 12 years working at the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, where she led the research division and served as the technical lead for the operational Geospace model. As a National Science Foundation (NSF) Astrobiology Research Fellow, she investigated the use of auroral signatures to determine exoplanet atmospheric composition. Dr. Cash enjoys the interdisciplinary aspects of heliophysics and loves collaborations that bridge different scientific disciplines.
- Alan Zide is the Program Executive for the Heliophysics Escape and Plasma Acceleration and Dynamics Explorers (ESCAPADE) and Multi-slit Solar Explorer (MUSE) science missions. He led the Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe (IMAP) rideshare implementation and is a member of the NASA Science Mission Directorate (SMD) Rideshare Office. Zide also led an international team that launched Solar Orbiter and was the Program Executive for Parker Solar Probe during its operational phase. Previously, he served in the NASA HQ Chief Technologist Office leading cross-agency teams developing the Strategic Technology Implementation Plan (STIP) and Technology Roadmaps. He began his career in industry at Rockwell Satellite Systems/Boeing as a spacecraft avionics engineer designing spacecraft computer command and data handling systems. Zide has also received the Silver Snoopy award for his key leadership and creative implementation approaches of the commercialization of NASA’s Kennedy Space Center for the multi-user spaceport.
