SUMMARY:Every Resident Has a Story: Using Life Histories to Create Meaningful Care
DESCRIPTION:A patient’s chart tells you the facts—but it doesn’t tell you the person. Learn how uncovering each patient’s life story can lead to more meaningful engagement\, individualized support\, and better outcomes\, especially for those living with dementia. This virtual session explores practical strategies for recognizing preferences\, interpreting behavioral cues\, and developing activity programming that reflects each person’s unique history\, interests\, and goals while supporting CMS expectations for individualized care. \nUpon completion of this session\, participants will be able to: \n\nDescribe how understanding a patient’s life story supports individualized care and meaningful engagement\, particularly for individuals living with dementia.\nIdentify strategies for recognizing verbal and nonverbal cues that reveal patient preferences\, interests\, and unmet needs.\nApply practical approaches to designing activities and daily interactions that align with each patient’s personal history\, values\, and CMS expectations for individualized care.\n\nDate and Time\nAttendees will meet virtually via Zoom with 2 sessions: \nNovember 10\, 2026 \nSession 1: 9:30 – 10:30 am\nBreak: 10:30 – 10:45 am\nSession 2: 10:45 – 11:45 am \nIntended Audience\nAdministration\, Nursing\, CNAs\, Social Workers/Designees\, Activity/Recreation Professionals\, Long-Term Care Facilities and Assisted Living Centers. \nContinuing Education Hours\nCEUs are pending. \nWhat’s Included\nRegistration fee includes digital handouts\, one connection to the live webinar and instructions for receiving CEU credit/attendance certificate for one person.

DESCRIPTION:For over 20 years\, LeadingAge Illinois and Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center have offered the Dementia Leadership Course\, a comprehensive educational series intended to provide Dementia Leaders with information they need to develop their skills and grow in their roles. \nDementia experts have recently re-designed this interactive program and added an ongoing networking component. The course provides a framework to teach the specialized skills and competencies needed to provide exceptional dementia services. \nUpon completion of the course\, participants will join the Dementia Leadership Network. Through a private forum\, the Network will offer resources and training material to use for staff education\, and allow participants to continue to interact\, connect\, share ideas\, and ask questions. \nTopics Include:\nLeadership and Dementia Care\nUpdate on Dementia\nAbility Centered Care\nRecognizing the Whole Person\nBeing an Expert in the Larger Community\nLiving with Dementia \nDate & Time\nAttendees will meet 4 times virtually via Zoom:\nNovember 18 & 20 and December 2 & 4\, 2026\n10:15 am – 2:15 pm each day \nWho Should Attend?\nDirectors of Alzheimer’s Special Care Units and Memory Care Programs\, Staff Educators\, Nurse Managers\, Therapists\, Social Workers\, Life Enrichments Directors\, Chaplains\, CNAs\, Home Care\, Adult Day Care\, Memory Care staff\, Dietary personnel\, and Administrators.
