SUMMARY:OSHA Approved Active Shooter Training
DESCRIPTION:Active Shooter Prevention and Response Training for Long-Term Care — NO AVAILABILITY REMAINS \nDescription: \nAn active shooter in the long-term setting is something no one wants to think about but preparation for this type of emergency is a must.  With the additional challenges for preparation and response in this environment\, the Active Shooter Prevention and Response for Long-Term Care training will explore pre-incident prevention and preparation\, during incident response and post incident planning and response specifically for long-term care settings. The training will provide tools and strategies from the individual employee and organizational levels.  The interactive training will include discussion of policy and procedure\, situational awareness\, communication of concerns\, Run/Hide/Fight alone and with residents\, working with law enforcement and preparedness requirements.  Engaging learning exercises and a multiple part tabletop exercise will provide opportunities to apply what they learn. \nObjectives: \nAfter the training\, participants will be able to: \n\nDescribe their role in prevention and active shooter response.\nDescribe actions to take when confronted with an active shooter.\nIdentify strategies for interacting with law enforcement who are responding to an active shooter.\nDescribe how to manage the consequences of an active shooter event.\n\nTrainers: \n\nBill Cochran – Custom Training Specialist at the Washburn Institute of Technology’s Public Safety Institute and Retired Chief of Police – Topeka\, Kansas\nStephanie Gfeller\, LACHA\, MS and Director of Professional Development and Leadership LeadingAge Kansas/OSHA Grant Project Coordinator\nTravis Bennett – Loss Control Consultant with Thomas McGee\, a division of Risk Strategies.\n\nWho should attend? \nThe virtual training is designed to provide all long-term care employees\, regardless of role\, knowledge and skills related to active shooter incidents. \nTo maximize the impact of the training and application in organizations\, we recommend attending as a group of at least four.  This might include safety committee members\, staff from various departments/roles/shifts and leadership. \nAll attendees will receive a personalized certificate of completion. Administrators\, operators and nurses licensed in Kansas will receive CE credit.  Missouri Administrators will receive 3.5 Administrators CEU’s (TA# 015-37-26) \nOrganizations that have five or more attending the training session will also be provided with an after action report documenting the completion of the active shooter tabletop exercise.
